DC furious with Massa after smash
A furious David Coulthard pointed the finger squarely at Felipe Massa for the collision that ended his race in Melbourne.
The Red Bull driver crashed with the Ferrari driver at turn one on lap 26, with the impact causing major damage to the side of his RB4.
Massa, trying to salvage his race after spinning out on the first lap, tried to pass the Scot for 10th place down the inside of the first turn, but the pair ran into the side of each other – punting the RBR driver into the gravel.
And Coulthard was in doubt who was to blame for the smash.
“Obviously Felipe is in the quicker car and he's got a bit more top speed, but you have got to pass someone – you can't just ram into the side of someone like that,” he said
“I know I screwed up in the same way with Alex [Wurz] last year, but I took responsibility for it and I would expect Felipe to do the same.”
But Massa reckoned Coulthard was the man who could have avoided the collision.
"I was on the inside and he closed the door on me, probably because he hadn't seen me," he said.
The incident brought out the safety car for the second time in the opening race, while the marshals cleared the stricken RB4.
Massa initially continued following the collision, but pulled off the track on lap 30 to end a hugely disappointing race.
