The Hungaroring was built in the 1980s to host the Eastern bloc's first ever grand prix.
The inaugural race in 1986 was a resounding success, with over 100,000 people turning up to watch a battle of the Brazilians as Nelson Piquet put in one of his greatest drives and defeated Ayrton Senna.
The circuit's acrobatic layout makes overtaking all but impossible, yet although it has hosted more than its fair share of tedious races, the Hungaroring has also been the venue for some of the most dramatic grands prix of all time.
The 1989 event, for instance, saw Nigel Mansell come from 12th on the grid to win after an unforgettable move on Senna while lapping traffic.
Mansell would later clinch his sole world title in Hungary, and he wasn't the only Brit to enjoy success at the track.
Damon Hill took his first F1 win at the Hungaroring in 1993, and added another two years later.
He was on course for a remarkable third place in the humble Arrows in 1997 until a heartbreaking 11th-hour hydraulic problem struck.
Last season Jenson Button followed in Hill's footsteps and took his own maiden win in Hungary after a captivating wet-dry race.
The track was also the scene of Fernando Alonso's first ever victory in 2003 - the young Spaniard even lapping Michael Schumacher on his way to the chequered flag.
